Network Spinal Analysis or Network Chiropractic is a technique that addresses physical, chemical, and emotional imbalance in the body. It was developed by Dr. Donald Epstein, a Chiropractor who attended the New York College of Chiropractic. After he graduated and began to care for his practice members, he noticed that some of them didn't respond in a predictable way to the methods he had been taught in school. Dr. Epstein suspected an emotional component within the nervous system that was not being handled by the standard, structural-type of adjustment. Over several years, using clinical research, Dr. Epstein formulated a more comprehensive approach to spinal care that included the release of stored emotions and chemicals along with the physical healing. Dr. Moore has attended many of his seminars and incorporates his principles into her work.

"...negative emotion is toxic to the body and interferes with its balance and harmonious functioning. Fear, anxiety, anger... all disrupt the energy flow through the body, affecting the heart, the immune system, digestion, production of hormones, and so on."  —Eckhart Tolle, "A New Earth"Network usually involves a light touch or tapping, or a sustained-hold to the soft-tissues of the spine. This releases tension in the meningeal system that has developed in response to unresolved emotional trauma or stored chemicals. Network Chiropractors are trained to detect the changes that indicate the different types of trauma and to facilitate the release of this build-up. Changes happen over time as the body unwinds and lets go of the unresolved trauma.

What About Symptoms?

Most people seek help when a symptom or a combination of symptoms causes them discomfort. Some may have tried other approaches unsuccessfully. Western Medicine attempts to modify or eliminate symptoms with the premise that being symptom-free equates to health. Nothing could be farther from the truth. A healthy body generates symptoms as it attempts to heal itself. For instance, inflammation (heat, redness, pain, and swelling) is the first stage of healing. If we immediately squelch the signs of acute distress by taking anti-inflammatory medication or pain relievers, we thwart the body's natural inclinations. The healing process has now been aborted and the injury or trauma will "go under-ground", ie: it will become chronic. Unfortunately, the body is not capable of healing chronic problems because, by definition, it is no longer fully aware of them.

Healing involves the process of restoring a chronic illness or injury to its acute state so that our inner healing mechanisms can be fully engaged. In order to heal dis-ease, the doctor-within must be completely connected to the injured area so that it can mobilize the appropriate response. Whether this trauma has to do with unresolved emotions, physical injury, mental stress, spiritual disharmony, or stored toxins, our innate intelligence has the greatest capacity for healing when the nervous system is clear of interference. It is the Chiropractor's job to remove the interference and to return the spinal system to a state of ease. This allows the body to heal itself.

Do Network Chiropractors Ever Perform Structural Adjustments?

Network Spinal Analysis is a means of determining the appropriate sequence and content of care. Dr. Epstein found that the soft-tissue tension needs to be released before the application of force is appropriate. Most Network doctors have also discovered that structural misalignments often resolve themselves once the meningeal tension disappears. The human body is born with an innate awareness of its position in space. This proprioceptive sense knows where all body parts should be at any given time and has a desire to be in alignment. Many times, distortions will correct themselves during normal daily activities once the spinal tension is gone.

Dr. Lisa MooreWithin the Network protocol there is a time and place for the application of a more forceful adjustment. If, for some reason, your body is not able to readjust itself, your Network Chiropractor will provide assistance at the appropriate time.

When aligned, you are at your most productive, dynamic, creative level of performance.
